Mega-Super-Online-Retailer, Amazon.com has acquired deal site woot.com. You should be familiar with woot since their site, shirt.woot is included in practically all daily shirt roundup sites (This site included). Does that mean they are now going to be a soulless corporate entity?
Amazon has been doing subsidiary acquisitions for a while. Companies like Zappos, Endless.com, and now Woot!, have been brought under the Amazon umbrella, but allowed to maintain most of the same culture and operations that they had before the acquisition. Of course, they are still accountable to the corporate overlords, but on the plus side, they gain access to a collective resources and money saving overhead services.
Here is a sock puppet monkey explaining the deal:
I think that the site will no longer be a daily deal site, since many have found that particular model to not be profitable enough. I don’t necessarily think that would be a bad thing, but it will cause the site to lose quirkiness that many have learned to appreciate. More might be better, but we will just have to wait and see.
