Yeah, I know that being critical about the problems surrounding the operations at American Apparel (APP) is like fishing in a barrel, but it’s still highly relevant to many shirt producers. AA may not be the de-facto standard that it once was, but a large shunk of shirts sold out there are printed on AA cloth.

In case you were not aware, AA is having profitability issues and is on thin ice with their financing company. The retail landscape is tough right now and people are not willing to spend $20 retail for a blank t-shirt, no matter how lolitaish you make your advertising. This makes it hard for AA to meet it’s profit targets and makes their finance company, Lion Capital, uneasy about the future of the company. What this means for the shirt-o-sphere is that if retail folds, it probably takes the wholesale part with it and, if you are a fan of designs printed on American Apparel shirts, you’re going to be stuck.

Well, at least for the rest of 2010, Lion is letting the lack of extreme profitability slide and is giving AA breather and time to turn around the slump. One requirement is that AA needs to look for new management team members to bring a new direction to the company.

I’m sure there is alot of life left in the company, but I’d suggest that you look into other options just in case. Hey! Looks like that would be a good subject for an article.

I always wondered why a TV channel would sometimes run a movie about 1000 times in a week. I think they buy the rights for a period of time and have to get their money’s worth, so they play it so many times that you can’t avoid watching it. The last few weeks, It was the movie, “Airplane” on a channel that I can’t recall.

It’s an old movie, but it’s a funny one.

This shirt, which pays homage(?) to a certain reality star, has been making the rounds across the series of internetworked tubes. It’s not for sale yet, so that’s not really helpful, but the reason I posted it is to spotlight the creator of the shirt.

The guy’s name is Branden Kramer, a grad of Miami Ad School, and he originally made the shirt as a joke and sort of “proof-of-concept” project. He took the time to design the shirt, make a few samples, and found a few GTL friends to model the shirts. All this just for a few pictures and laughs.

Word got out and the shirt is buzzing and like with any PopCulture meme, there will probably be some commerce involved. Hopefully Branden will get it out there soon, before the copycats mobilize.

I bet the guy from the reality show sure wishes he got that ™ right about now.

Wow! £10,000 is alot of money, especially when you can win it for designing a T-shirt!

I can’t say that I know much about who is running the contest, other than the owner having one of the coolest names that I’ve ever seen. sure, it’s OK to be skeptical, but you should still look into going for the prize or you’ll be kicking rocks if you miss out on the £10,000. I’ll try to get more information about the contest and report it here when I find out.
