Pope Francis drops a dope rhyme
The Pope Is Dope – Just in time for the Pope’s visit to Philly came this “The Pope Is Dope” t-shirt design. Sure, there were a couple of crappy designs floating around already with that message, but this one actually looks good.
Unlike most Popes, Francis is a man of the people and truly deserves a dope, old school tribute like this. (I don’t think crusty old Pope Benedict inspired too many t-shirt designs)
I like the one with the retro-filter, but you can find shirts without the distressed look as well.
Hopefully the designer of this t-shirt, Chairman Meow, was able to capitalize on the tweet by Kim Kardashian that “The Pope is dope,” during his Philly visit, or the meme that started when people saw The Pope’s rapper stance above.
*Zazzle makes it hard to find the best style t-shirt, but if you look there are men’s and women’s tee options from American Apparel, etc.
“The Mack’s dope with more hope than the Pope
But for MCs more knots than rope.” – Craig Mack, Flava In Your Ear
My Favorite Dinosaur – As stated on the My Favorite Dinosaur site, these t-shirts were “created by people who often wear t-shirts and think Dinosaurs are awesome.” What a customer base! Everyone wears t-shirts and I’ve NEVER heard anyone say, “Meh, dinosaurs kinda suck.” Everyone loves dinosaurs!
The t-shirts are very simple and graphic, featuring a line drawing of each dinosaur and its name. The site features accompanying information on each dinosaur, like where and when it lived, specialized features and what the name means. There is even simple representation of how big it would be compared to an average human, which will remind you how incredibly terrifying these creatures must have been in the flesh. I think that it would be really neat to include at least some of the information on the back of the shirt. If you’re going rock a t-shirt with a freaking Iguanodon on it, why not educate the public on its awesomeness at the same time?
There are dozens of colors to pair with your favorite dinosaur, and you can even customize the text and color of your dinosaur, so the possibilities are endless. The sizes range from infant to toddler to adult, so the entire family can Walk the Dinosaur.
These t-shirts are simple and whimsical, and just plain fun. Check them out here.

You know, the great thing about designing t-shirts is that there are no limitations; so why not have fun with it? With all the designs out there, you really have to do something to distinguish yourself to get people’s attention.
That’s just what Sebastien Millon seems to be doing on his site & with his t-shirts for sale over on Etsy.
His simple cartoonish style works well with his often dark humor, creating some designs you have to look twice at. Kind of reminds of a parody on those hugely successful “Life is Good” designs.
little owlie loves a fat beat
While not all illustrations are dark, subjects like alcoholism and murder are perfect with these cute drawings, right!? (Personally, I’ve always wanted to see one of those happy little Care Bears brought to their knees with a serious meth addiction) The simple, handwritten font is a good match, too.

Thanks to Ramsey for dropping me a line about his brilliant illustrations at Raz City Studios. I may have missed his cool Halloween themed monster t-shirt which was on sale at Shirt Punch for a day, but I definitely like his Christmas Carol / Sons of Anarchy sketch.
A must see for Trekkies is the hilarious Many Lives of Spock t-shirt above; envisioning how pop culture influenced Spock over the years. (available through Red Bubble)
Ramsey has a great blog which showcases not only his t-shirt designs, but his great comic book style illustrations and sketches. Check it out!

"Fallen from Grace"
Remuse is a new artist collective brand offering sweat-shop free t-shirts (American Apparel, I believe) that are released seasonally. Remuse designs are meant to inspire “the pondering of everyday life both subliminally and direct.”
Like myself, they hail from outside Philly & also seem to share my glass half-empty view of where society is headed. They intend to encourage awareness of society’s decline through their work.
I think the artists at Remuse are off to a great start. Although they only have a handful of designs, the ones they have showcase impressively illustrated, thought-provoking illustrations printed on quality tees.

I’m loving the lines, color, and balance in these designs. Really, no text is even needed in these vignettes of sexy femme fatales that combines exotic fantasy art w/ vintage comic book style. Look, there’s a zombie!

This is not actually a leather t-shirt
This is Not Leather – Whoa, what a cool design sent to us by Mo at Norwegian clothing brand Killer Brigade. Looking like leather over a real skull t-shirt (which i believe is considered “business casual?”) this kind of takes that old “tuxedo shirt” idea to a new level. I guess you would call this “Trompe-l’œil,” defined as “realistic imagery in order to create an optical illusion.”
I really like how the leather design on the front fades out around the edges, and bleeds right onto the edge of the collar, giving it a cool, realistic effect. Although the store is based in Norway, I’m wondering how Americans like myself can get one of these t-shirts? Mo, if you have the answer, please comment below!
