Alexander Hamilton T-Shirt: The $10 Founding Father

hamilton broadway musical playbillHamilton Revolution Army T-Shirt: Unless you’ve been stuck in a West Virginia coal mine, you’ve probably heard of the Broadway phenomenon that is “Hamilton.” It’s a game-changing hip hop musical that has been called “inspirational” and “life-changing.” (Unlike your average Iggy Azalea concert)

If you don’t have $1500 to spend on a pair of tickets, definitely download the amzing and addictive soundtrack. Also, here’s a cool t-shirt design tribute to “The Ten Dollar Founding Father,” Alexander Hamilton Himself for under $20 from Threadless.com:

Buy an Alexander Hamilton T-shirt; But The Broadway Musical Store is Expensive!

You know, when something really starts to take off or becomes a meme, the internet quickly becomes filled with junk from people with Photoshop and a CafePress shop. You really have to sort through crap to find something wearable.

The other thing is that if you want to buy officially licensed Hamilton Broadway / Musical shirts, they cost $30+ each, even for kids’ t-shirts!

I thought this Hamilton t-shirt was pretty sweet, though. Photo courtesy of longlivethekitty.com

The Hamilton Musical: NYC, Chicago, London Beware Expensive or Crappy Gifts & T-Shirt Designs & Gifts

When Disney’s Frozen came out, everyone went wild and started buying merchandise of all kinds. For people who didn’t want to get approval and pay royalties to Disney to create a design, I assume it was a challenge to come up with a good design that didn’t infringe on copyrights.

Hamilton is different, as it’s about a historical figure, so it offers designers the opportunity to use images of Alex himself without stepping on any toes. Obviously, you can’t use images of Lin Manuel Miranda or the actual actors, but why not start with the most recognizable, royalty free picture of Alexander Hamilton out there: the $10 bill?

I guess this shirt design is just as appealing whether you are a fan in NYC (Broadway), Chicago, or London!

Alexander Hamilton Revolution Shirts: for Men, Women, & Kids

My favorite color for this t-shirt is the army / olive color, as it goes well with the theme of “revolution.” I guess the red shirts do too, but that’s more of a communist revolution.

Also, there aren’t many Hamilton tees that I would actually put on my kids, but this one is available for boys and girls.

Reagan Is My Homeboy T-Shirt

Reagan is my homeboy – Say what you will about conservatives, but the fact is that they aren’t typically the best graphic designers. (or dancers) I have a theory about why; something about creativity coming from other side of the brain, but that’s for another day. Besides, Liberals have their own issues.

reagan is my homeboy t-shirt

Anyway, when good conservative t-shirts come along, they are worth highlighting. After hearing Reagan mentioned for the 27th time during last night’s Republican Debate, I thought it was a good time to highlight this, “Reagan is My Homeboy” t-shirt.

Pay tribute to The Gipper in all his (1980?) militant-grandfatherly-cowboy glory with a “Reagan is My Homeboy” t-shirt.

“When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.” Ronald Reagan – Awwww yeah.

4 Cheap Tuxedo T-shirt Designs: Only $6

cheapest tuxedo t-shirtsCheap tuxedo t-shirt – Renting a tuxedo is expensive, and the worst thing you can do is return it damaged or really late. Events like bachelor parties in Vegas might seem like a good time to wear a tuxedo, but face it; it logistically doesn’t make sense. It’s going to end up lost or damaged, and you might even puke on it.

For this reason, consider getting tuxedo t-shirts for that bachelor party, wedding /post-prom party, bar gathering, or just about any event where you want to look formal without the cost and effort, and realize that puke might be involved. Also available: tux t-shirts for kids. (Bar mitzvah?)

*Warning: Wearing a tuxedo t-shirt screams, “I’m a smart-ass,” and is going to get you attention. Be ready to answer the inevitable, “I like your tux!” comments. (Hopefully from attractive ladies rather than fat guys with mustaches who have just dropped something into your drink.)

A possible smart-ass response to this comment may include, “Thanks! Want to smell my boutonniere?”

Who Wore the First Tuxedo T-Shirt?

They say that Art Garfunkel might have been the first guy to wear a tuxedo t-shirt when he donned one to the 1975 Grammy Awards. Man, he really looks like a smart ass, but check out how the afro and tux shirt lift him out of Paul Simon’s shadow. It’s GARFUNKEL and Simon tonight, baby!

More Tux T-Shirt Ideas

So, are you trying to think of another event to wear a tux tee? Well, start thinking of when you are most likely to puke, and that’s your answer. How about wearing a “kiss me I’m Irish” tux t-shirt on St. Patrick’s Day?

The Pope Is Dope T-Shirt – Sweet Design!

Pope Francis drops a dope rhyme

The Pope Is Dope – Just in time for the Pope’s visit to Philly came this “The Pope Is Dope” t-shirt design. Sure, there were a couple of crappy designs floating around already with that message, but this one actually looks good.

Unlike most Popes, Francis is a man of the people and truly deserves a dope, old school tribute like this. (I don’t think crusty old Pope Benedict inspired too many t-shirt designs)

I like the one with the retro-filter, but you can find shirts without the distressed look as well.

Hopefully the designer of this t-shirt, Chairman Meow, was able to capitalize on the tweet by Kim Kardashian that “The Pope is dope,” during his Philly visit, or the meme that started when people saw The Pope’s rapper stance above.

*Zazzle makes it hard to find the best style t-shirt, but if you look there are men’s and women’s tee options from American Apparel, etc.

18 Classic Pop Culture Cars on One Radical T-Shirt

classic cars pop culture t-shirt

inspector gadgetClassic cars of Pop Culture T-shirt: Can you guess them all? In many popular movies and cartoons of the 1980’s, the cars were as big of a character as any of the people. So, why not illustrate the best of them and put them on one t-shirt? (I can’t think of a reason; except that it might take you a week)

If you’re the type of person who likes to have people squint and stare at your chest, this t-shirt might be a good investment, and you’re in luck;

Also interesting to consider that nearly all of the movies that featured memorable automobiles from the 80’s spawned sequels modern remakes; I’m struggling to find one on this design that didn’t! (Maybe that’s all that Howard the Duck needed to be a hit? You know, like a “Duckmobile” or something?)

greased lightning carAlso, the way things are headed, it looks like we might get a modern day remake of The Cold War to go with our remixed 80’s pop culture.

Anyway, if you grew up in the 80’s and think you’re pretty sharp, try naming all of the classic cars featured on this nostalgic shirt. (OK, there are a few automobiles that aren’t from the 80’s mixed in)

I’ve put the answers below, but don’t cheat! Be sure to share this with friends, and see who scores the highest. By the way, I thought that #6 was the hardest; it’s not from the 80’s, so here’s a big clue:

Cat on a Motorcycle T-Shirt

cat on a motorcycle

cat on motorcycle t-shirtCat on a motorcycle – Purrfect Roadtrip: I came across this t-shirt on Threadless (designed by Nicholas Tankersley) recently, and it struck a chord with me. The idea of a cat-owning biker is funny, but on some level it really makes sense to me. I immediately make a connection between the motorcycle and the cat, and that is “independence.”

I have an uncle who has been riding Harleys his whole life, and has always been a huge cat person. He never wanted kids, and hasn’t been able to keep a job, although he’s got a brilliant mind. (He can take apart a car or helicopter’s engine and completely reassemble it from memory) It probably wasn’t until I saw this t-shirt that I made the connection between motorcycles and cats.

cat motorcyclist auto

Think about it; cat owners don’t need the reassuring co-dependence that having dogs offer. They don’t stare out the window longingly when you leave the house, and don’t greet you at the door by jumping up and down and licking you when you leave for 10 minutes. Cats certainly enjoy the occasional tummy rub, or back scratch, but at the end of the day, they enjoy their independence. In fact, the cat that I had growing up would spend most of its time outdoors terrorizing birds and sitting in trees, and really just needed us for meals.

I’m not saying that cat owners are somehow morally superior, but I think, like bikers, they’re likely to crave some degree of independence. Back to the design; The retro Harley motorcycle makes it timeless. (Depicting one of those Japanese crotch-rockets wouldn’t work here) Nice use of color, (or, lack thereof) all black with a splash of red on the cat’s bandana, maybe representing that streak of independence I was talking about? Thoughts?

Funkalicious: Retro 80’s Astronaut w/ Boom Box T-Shirt Design

retro 80s moon landing astronaut boom box

funkalicious shirt astronaut 80sFunkalicious – Threadless churns out its share of cool retro-inspired t-shirts, but this has to be one of the best, and is sure to take it’s place as an iconic design.

For those of us who grew up in the 80’s it immediately brings to mind that old MTV clip with the astronaut jumping on the moon.

Well, fast-forward to the future; MTV sucks, and we’ve outsourced our space program. Maybe that’s why I have such nostalgia for this design?

It also works because of the effortless simplicity in the design, and that’s what you find in most iconic t-shirt designs. It looks like the artist, Chris Golebiowski, didn’t have to try to hard to hit this home run, either.

I also remember calling those radios, “ghetto-blasters,” by the way; a term which apparently didn’t survive the invention of “political correctness.” (but the Cleveland Indians logo did!?) You can pick up one of these Funkalicious, moon man t-shirts over at threadless for about $20.

Cool Rubik’s Cube Meltdown T-shirt

melting rubiks cube t-shirt

Melting Rubik’s Cube T-Shirt – What a cool visual in this t-shirt design showing Rubik’s cube melting down. Beyond the visual, this imagery has some nice symbolism in it. Maybe accompanying a story about the meltdown of negotiations in the Middle East or something. To me it symbolizes “entropy,” which is the tendency of things to move from order to chaos. (like an ice cube or the universe itself)

Anyway, I’m probably reading into that too much, but a sweet design. Also, this t-shirt was apparently worn by Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. Nice little tv exposure there. Sold online at glennz.com
