Trumpy Cat T-Shirt: Successful t-shirt designs can often be about creating a mash of seemingly unrelated subjects. In this case, why not take two of the biggest pop culture icons of the times and mash them together?
Not following? Here’s a visual illustration of how it works:
Grumpy Cat + Donald Trump = Trumpy Cat
“There are two types of people in this world, and I don’t like them.” – Grumpy cat
“I’m not sure I have ever asked God’s forgiveness.” – Donald Trump
Ah hah, now I get it! Really, the two of them are pretty similar already. They both hate others, love attention, and have a pessimistic view of the world. (although Grumpy Cat’s view of Mexicans is still unknown)
Really it’s just a matter of giving Grumpy Cat a toupee, suit, and some eyebrows, and viola; “Trumpy Cat.”
Turns out that the same curiosity that cats show towards things that move or make noise probably also makes them afraid of something strange placed behind them while they are eating.
It’s probably a deep-seated survival instinct, and the cucumber represents a snake or predator sneaking up on them while they eat, but it’s funny!
Cats + Cucumbers = Funny
These cats would probably have the same reaction if other unknown objects were sneaked behind them, but something about cucumbers makes it funny.
It’s no doubt why the cats & cucumbers video has become an internet meme. Not sure who created the video, (it’s been seen over 5 million times!) but there’s also this t-shirt tribute, “CAT VS. CUCUMBER: Quit Scarin’ the Cat, OK?”
My Cat Is My Valentine T-Shirt – Did you know that more than 60% of Americans celebrate Valentine’s Day? Think of all those dumb Valentine cards and chocolates, not to mention the tie-wearing boobs who line up at the supermarket on the way home from work to buy overpriced flowers and stuffed bears.
Let others know that your love is reserved for someone special who can’t kill a stripper and then empty your bank account (sorry, does that not happen to other people?) with a “My Cat Is My Valentine t-shirt.
And what is Valentine’s Day anyway? No one really knows the details, but it was one of those Pagan Holidays like Christmas taken over by the church to be respectable, and renamed for St.Valentine to sound legitimate.
Well, 800 years later people are throwing money around on over-priced “Valentine” menus (go the day before when everything is normal price!) and watching horrible romantic comedies… sorry, I’d rather not participate!
There certainly are no shortage of memes involving cats, and one famous cat meme involves Ceiling Cat. Basically, it’s a funny picture of a cat looking through a hole in some drywall which was rotated so that it looks like the cat is looking down on us from the ceiling.
Ceiling Cat quickly gained God-like qualities, and the rest is history. Oh, and he apparently watches you masturbate. More: Who is Ceiling Cat?
Ceiling Cat is watching you masturbate
Anyway, it’s always nice when you can do a good job making a t-shirt out of an internet meme, which is the case with this Ceiling Cat t-shirt design from Chairman Meow:
Chairman Meow T-Shirts on KickStarter: Glorious leader Chairman Meow is offering propaganda t-shirts and poster art for the Kitty Revolution on KickStarter, promising that after the Revolution, supporters of Chairman Meow will be “the lucky ones.”
Looks like he has science behind his argument too, noting that climate change is actually extending cat breeding season, causing lots more feral cats. Uh oh!
We certainly support the Revolution, so count us in for a t-shirt.
Looks like they’re about half way to their goal, with 7 of the initial 14 days remaining.
I’m actually surprised that they haven’t reached their goal yet, but then again, I haven’t seen a lot of successful t-shirt campaigns on KickStarter. I guess the main drawback is the amount of time needed to make a campaign successful, and the low profit margin you get from screen-printing and selling (100?) t-shirts.
I’m going to research whether KickStarter is a good idea for this type of a project, or if you’d be better off using a site like TeeSpring instead.
Anyway, regardless of whether this campaign gets funded, I enjoyed Chairman Meow’s wisdom on their site. Also, I plan to use their $25 off coupon for TurboTax that I picked up on the site that’s going to save me $25 when I finally do my taxes. (But will there still be an American Government to write my check to by April 15th?)
